TOR-SPRING™ – A Breakthrough in EMI/RFI Cord
Grip Design and Installation
|
| Original EMI/RFI Cord Grip designs feature one or more internal
metal rings to which the cable's braided shield is attached.
Because the braided shield must be cut, removed and then carefully
positioned around or between these rings, the EMI/RFI Performance
of field installed Cord Grips have been inconsistent and dependent
on the installer's experience, skill level and willingness to
follow installation instructions. Conta-Clip's new TOR-SPRING™
Cord Grips have been especially developed to eliminate the
installation and performance uncertainties associated with
traditional design EMI/RFI Cord Grips. Their advanced design
represents a significant technological breakthrough overcoming all
installation shortcomings associated with traditional ring design
Cord Grips, while providing more consistent EMI/RFI Performance.

|
Installation of Traditional EMI/RFI Cord Grips |
|
 |
Installation of traditional design, EMI/RFI Cord Grips onto
shielded cables is difficult and time consuming. Both the cable
jacket and the shield must be cut and removed at the Cord Grip's
attachment point. Next, the braided shield must be carefully
separated and positioned around one or a pair of metal rings. If
this procedure is not followed exactly, the Cord Grip 's EMI/RFI
Performance can be diminished or inconsistent. Because the braided
shield is cut away and removed at the Cord Grip attachment point,
continuance of EMI/RFI Performance to the cable termination point
is not provided. Application of a secondary tubular braid to this
length of unshielded cable is required to ensure the system's EMC
Integrity. |
|
Installation of TOR-SPRING™ Cord Grips |
|
 |
Conta-Clip's unique TOR-SPRING™ EMI/RFI Cord Grip Design
featuring the toroidal spring/tapered ring principle ensures a
controlled and precise installation onto shielded cables.
Installation is simplified and installation time is significantly
reduced because only the cable jacket needs to be cut and removed
at the Cord Grip attachment point. The cable's braided shield
remains intact and is eliminated from the installation procedure.
Since the braided shield extends to the termination point,
continuous EMI/RFI Performance is guaranteed. |
|
Shielded Cable Preparation |
|
 |
Two optional methods of cable preparation are used when
installing TOR-SPRING™ EMI/RFI Cord Grips. The preferred method
of shielded cable preparation involves cutting and removal of a
small 10mm (0.39in.) segment of cable jacket at the Cord Grip
attachment point (See Figure# 3). The second method involves
stripping and removing the cable jacket from the Cord Grip
attachment point to the end of the cable (See Figure# 4). |
|
 |
The cable preparation method used will be determined by the
outer diameters of the cable jacket and braided shield and the
inner diameter of the (2) available Cord Grip Styles A and B; and,
whether it is possible for the cable to fit through the TOR-SPRING™
Cord Grip's Tapered Rings. If the cable dimensions are such that
the cable will pass through the Cord Grip, then only a segment of
the cable jacket needs to be removed. Conversely, if the cable
will not pass through the Cord Grip's Tapered Rings, the cable
jacket must be fully stripped from the Cord Grip attachment point
to the end of the cable. |

steps under How to Select/Specify TOR-SPRING™ Cord Grips. |
